Hidden in Plain Sight.

The Hidden Retreat transforms a 12-foot wall into a complete guest-room system. A vertical queen Murphy bed occupies the center, adjustable shelving creates everyday storage, and the shelving on the left quietly becomes a concealed passage. When closed, the entire composition reads as one continuous piece of custom cabinetry.

01 — The Brief

It Began With a Description.

The homeowner knew what she wanted: a queen-size bed that could disappear when it was not needed, generous open shelving, and a passage concealed within the cabinetry. There was no reference image—the design began entirely with her description.

02 — Initial Concept

Making Every Inch Work.

The first elevation divided the 12-foot wall into three working zones: a 36-inch concealed bookcase door, a 65⅞-inch vertical queen Murphy-bed cabinet, and 42⅛ inches of open shelving. Simple lines established the mechanism, clearances, upper storage, and the bed’s 87-inch open projection.

03 — Developed Design

Function, Hidden Beautifully.

With the working proportions established, the idea developed into a complete room composition. Soft white cabinetry, adjustable shelving, upper cubbies, crown molding, and a concealed passage unified the separate mechanisms behind one architectural face.
